Starting 130 out of 143 games throughout his 12 year career , Oben played a key role in helping his teams reach the post-season. In the 2002 season, Oben helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers capture their first Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XXXVII (JAN 2003).

Understandably though, Roman Oben has had a year or two over the course of his 12 year career with the NFL he’d like to forget. The consumate professional, both on and off the field, Oben never gave up.

Just days after signing a two-year contract extension in October 2005, Roman was diagnosed with a foot injury that would end his season after just eight games. His leadership and experience were missed. The rehab cost him a year of inactivity until Oben appeared at left tackle in the final two regular season games in 2006, helping the Chargers secure the #1 seed AFC.

He also played in the 2006 Divisional playoff game vs. The Patriots. Oben continued to persevere and returned to the field in 2007 playing mostly a reserve role on special teams, but more importantly his veteran leadership was an asset in the locker room, as the Chargers began the season 1-3 and ended up winning a second consecutive AFC West Divisional title and advanced to the AFC Championship game.

It was evident that football was in Roman’s future at a young age. As a teenager, he sold hot pretzels during Washington Redskins games at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. Oben’s professional career began with the New York Giants in 1996. He later played for the Cleveland Browns (2000 to 2002), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002 – 2004) and San Diego Chargers (2004-2008).
